Most of us have heard of or seen a one-man band, with a person strapped up to a huge bass drum, holding an accordion, and a harmonica around there mouth. Well that's old news and now a revolutionary new age gadget has been released, turning your trousers into drums. The gadget is called well DrumPants. They let users play music anywhere and anytime using sensors that change ordinary pants into a drum kit. Hooked up to a portable convenient control box, the DrumPants let the wearer choose from over 100 different sounds, including the piano.
The two wearable strips have 6 sensors and are very thin and flexible. There is also the option to add more sensors if you feel the need to do so. Since they respond to touch too, these wearable strips can be attached to any of your clothing, such as the inside of your shirt or jacket. They do not have to be put just in your pants.
A looping pedal can be added to the system and controlled by tapping a shoe, for example, to build up a layer of sounds and the wearable sensors can even be used to control a slideshow or other equipment such as a smartphone. (Griffiths)
Tyler Freeman, the Californian co-founder and inventor of DrumPants came up with the product as a prank but has now been working on it for six years and decided to commercialise it, while studying at the University of California, Santa Cruz. (Griffiths)
The notes and noises produced by the DrumPants can be sent to any app that supports MIDI or OSC and the device can also be connected to a computer or tablet via USB or BlueTooth (pictured) |
